Bubble, Bubble, Toil and Trouble

The town of Rotorua is sited on the edge of a large volcanic lake, and the region has a large number of active geothermal sites. We took a morning to visit a private “park” near Wai-o-Tapu and walk around its colorful pools, steam vents, geysers and mud pools. While we have been to Yellowstone, so have seen Old Faithful, this park had a wide variety on display over a short walk, and was a hit for all.

We loved the steamy pools

Rotorua also is known for having a wide range of adventure activities, including tandem skydiving, bungy jumping, zorbing (rolling downhill in a clear 8ft hamster ball), parasailing and more. We chose to take a gondola ride to the top of a hill overlooking the lake, which had an alpine slide ride.

  2. KW- alpine slide was awesome, but over quickly. You can consume a lot of $ fast here, so be warned.
